Josiah Golson

Josiah (b. 1986, Tuscaloosa, AL) is an artist, lawyer, and writer from Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is the founder of the 800 Collective, a diverse group of artists using art as a means of civic engagement and public discourse. Josiah’s work comprises of creative workshops, public art projects, and community development.

What did it mean to be recognized with the Footprint Award?

Recognition for the Footprint Award was for me a genuine statement of appreciation not only of my work but of the work done by many in our community and the need for it and support for those who do it. 

Who inspires you? Why?

I'm inspired by my parents, who raised my siblings and me in this City while constantly affirming our potential and ability to live meaningful and powerful lives despite whatever local or global obstacles might exist. 

What inspires you to do your work?

In doing my work I am inspired by the understanding that it is never finished, never perfect, never mine alone.  

What is one wish you have for Chattanooga?

I wish for Chattanooga to reflect its natural beauty in the way it treats its people.
